| Histoci downtown Branson's most popular attraction, the nostagic "Dick's 5 & 10." |
Historic downtown Branson is the proud home of “Dick’s 5 & 10,” a vintage “5 and 10” store that those over 60 can still remember and that those under 60 will not have a lot of chances to experience. It is unique in terms of type and quantity of its merchandise, the age and construction of the building, and the nostalgic atmosphere provided by the manner in which the merchandise is displayed and the store is set up. It is an adventure into the past that should be enjoyed from those of preschool age and above.
Folks have said if “You can’t find what you want in Dick’s then you don’t need it. It is historic downtown Branson’s largest tourist attraction and its aisles are normally crowded with people of all ages browsing its unusual, low priced and broad selection of merchandise.
It is a shopping adventure available nowhere else in Branson and, for that matter, in not very many other places in this country. A visit to Dick’s 5 & 10 is as much fun for kids as it is for adults although it should be pointed out that it is an old store and its aisles are neither baby stroller or wheel chair friendly.
As the picture indicates Dicks is easy to spot. It covers about a quarter of block on the north side of Main Street and is easy to reach. People driving east down Highway 76 to Branson Landing will drive right by Dick’s as they pass through historic downtown on their way to Branson Landing. A neat way to get to Dick’s is to go to Branson Landing and use the free Discovery Trolley, departing from Belks and the Bass Pro Shops parking lots about every ten minutes and running up the hill to historic downtown Branson.
